# 25 3 Digit Subtraction with Regrouping Worksheets 2nd Grade

What is the 3-digit Subraction? In case you don’t know, this is a method of reducing a worksheet. This worksheet then becomes the basis of the next worksheet and so on. The entire process is called subdivision or digitization.

For those who don’t know, here are some examples. Let’s say that we have a worksheet whose number cells contain ten. We want to move one of the cells from the ten spot to the twenty spot. The simplest way to do this is to just move it by one spot, but when doing this, we run into a little trouble. How can we make it go from ten to twenty without making our worksheet bulge out?

That’s an example of a subdivision, and with this method we can get our worksheets to divide themselves. However, in order to do this, we must first divide our cells in thirds. This is done by dividing the cell into two piles of three and using that as the basis for the next division.

How do we accomplish this? We use a third cell as the basis for the second pile of three and use this as the dividing point. Once this is done, then we can continue on our way. In order for this to be done correctly, however, we must first master the concept of cells. How do we do this?

Well, when we divide our worksheets into thirds, we need to start by dividing each cell in two. Then we pile these two cells up on top of each other, creating what we call a cell stack. Once the stack is full, then we simply need to remove the stack of cells below it and use this as the basis for the next division.

So now, when we use our Regrouping worksheet to perform this operation, what we are basically doing is dividing each cell in half. Once we have divided each cell into two, then we are left with six total cells to divide. Now, all we have to do is add this new cell to our worksheet and divide this six-cell series into three. Pretty easy, eh?

Here’s a quick science lesson. When you divide anything into smaller units, like pieces of food or clothing, you are really breaking them down into their constituent parts. This is how we break down our foods into their various nutrients and how we break down clothing into its components (i.e., pockets and seams). It is this basic physics lesson that is at the core of the way Regrouping worksheets work.

Here’s the final step: once you’ve grouped your numbers into three sets (two from each set of cell numbers), then you just click on the “Subtract” button. You will then be asked to type in the numbers that you wish to separate. The way Regrouping worksheets make it very easy to do this. Just click on the “Subtract” button, type in the numbers in the cell you wish to subtract from your current set and hit the “Subtract” button.

In the above example, if you only wanted to remove thirty-five from your cell numbers, all you would have to do is type in “3” into the cell. That is how easy Regrouping worksheets are to use. Not only are they fast and easy to use but they are also infinitely scalable (incremental and decreasing). This makes them ideal for almost any uses in the business.
